🌿 Echeveria Care Guide

(Echeveria Succulents — Lola, Perle von Nürnberg, Rainbow, Agavoides & More)

Echeverias are beautiful rosette-forming succulents loved for their stunning colours, symmetrical shapes, and easy-care nature. They are perfect for bright indoor spaces, patios, and succulent collections.

Baby Echeverias are generally easy to grow and reward you with beautiful compact rosettes when given plenty of light and careful watering.

🌞 Light

  • Require bright light to maintain compact growth and vibrant colours
  • Thrive in bright indirect light with some gentle morning sun
  • Low light may cause stretching and loss of colour
  • Introduce direct sun gradually to avoid sunburn

✨ Tip: More light equals better colour and tighter rosettes.

💧 Watering

  • Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings
  • Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain away
  • Reduce watering significantly during winter
  • Avoid water sitting inside the rosette

⚠️ Overwatering is the most common cause of failure in Echeverias.

✨ Tip: When in doubt, wait another day or two before watering.

🌱 Soil

Echeverias require a very free-draining mix.

Ideal mix includes:

  • Cactus and succulent mix
  • Extra pumice or perlite for drainage
  • Optional: coarse sand or mineral stone for improved airflow

Fast drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

🪴 Pot Size

  • Use a pot with drainage holes
  • Terracotta pots are ideal
  • Avoid oversized pots, as excess soil retains moisture

Echeverias prefer being slightly snug.

🌡 Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 18–30°C
  • Protect from frost and temperatures below 5°C
  • Prefer low humidity and good airflow
  • Avoid wet, humid conditions for prolonged periods

✨ Tip: Good airflow helps prevent fungal issues and keeps plants healthy.

🌿 Fertilizer

  • Feed lightly during spring and summer
  • Use a cactus or succulent fertilizer at ½ strength
  • Fertilize every 6–8 weeks
  • Do not fertilize during winter

Echeverias are light feeders and do not require heavy fertilizing.

🌸 Flowering

Mature Echeverias may produce colourful flower spikes during spring and summer.

Spent flower stalks can be removed once flowering has finished.

✂️ General Maintenance

  • Remove old lower leaves as they dry naturally
  • Rotate pots occasionally for even growth
  • Avoid overhead watering where possible
  • Ensure plenty of airflow around the plant

✨ Tip: Healthy Echeverias should form tight, symmetrical rosettes.

🐛 Pests to Watch For

Echeverias may occasionally attract:

  • Mealybugs
  • Aphids
  • Scale

Inspect regularly and treat early if needed.

⚠️ Pet Safety

Most Echeverias are generally considered pet-friendly, making them an excellent choice for households with pets. However, it's always best to discourage pets from chewing on any plants.
