🌿 Indoor Fern Care Guide
(Boston Fern, Maidenhair, Bird’s Nest, Rabbit’s Foot & More)
Indoor ferns are lush, graceful plants that bring a beautiful rainforest feel into the home. They thrive in consistent moisture, gentle light, and higher humidity. With the right conditions, ferns grow into stunning, full specimens.
🌞 Light
Prefers bright to medium indirect light
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch delicate fronds
Too little light may cause slower growth or sparse foliage
✨ Tip: Ferns love soft, filtered light — think “forest floor” conditions.
💧 Watering
Keep soil evenly moist at all times
Water as soon as the surface begins to feel slightly dry
Never allow the pot to completely dry out
Avoid waterlogging — good drainage is essential
Ferns are more sensitive to drying out than most houseplants.
🌱 Soil
Use a moisture-retentive but well-draining mix, such as:
Quality potting soil
Coco coir or peat for moisture
Perlite for airflow
Ferns enjoy consistently damp soil, but not soggy roots.
🪴 Pot Size
Babies do best in a small pot with drainage holes
Ferns like to be slightly snug
Repot only when roots begin to fill the pot
🌡 Temperature & Humidity
Ideal temperature: 18–26°C
Protect from cold drafts and heaters
Ferns thrive in high humidity (60%+)
To increase humidity:
Use a humidifier
Group plants together
Place near a pebble tray
Keep in a bright bathroom or enclosed space
✨ Tip: Crisp brown edges often indicate low humidity or underwatering.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed lightly during spring and summer
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer at ½ strength
Fertilize every 4–6 weeks
Pause feeding in cooler months
Ferns are sensitive feeders — gentle is best.
✂️ Maintenance
Remove any brown or damaged fronds at the base
Mist occasionally if humidity is low
Rotate the pot for even growth
Keep leaves dust-free for best airflow
🐛 Pests to Watch For
Ferns may occasionally attract:
Spider mites (common in dry air)
Mealybugs
Scale
Inspect regularly and treat early if needed.
⚠️ Pet Safety
Most common indoor ferns (Boston, Bird’s Nest, Maidenhair) are generally considered pet-friendly, however always check the specific variety if unsure.

Shipping Options
Bare Root Shipping (Most Economical Option):
Soil is mostly removed to reduce weight, and roots are wrapped in either sphagnum moss or damp shredded paper.
Potted Shipping (Where Possible):
Plants may be sent in their original nursery pots with soil intact. Shipping is calculated by weight, making this option more expensive, however plants will arrive less stressed with no need to pot them up on arrival.
