🌿 Baby Homalomena Care Guide
(Emerald Gem, Camouflage, Selby & More)
Homalomena are beautiful tropical foliage plants prized for their lush, heart-shaped leaves and compact growth. Often compared to Aglaonema or Philodendrons, they are generally easy-care once established and make excellent indoor plants.
Baby Homalomena enjoy warmth, gentle light, and evenly moist soil.
🌞 Light
Prefers bright, indirect light
Tolerates medium light conditions
Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch tender leaves
Low light may slow growth and reduce leaf vibrancy
✨ Tip: Soft filtered light encourages the healthiest foliage.
💧 Watering
Keep soil lightly moist, but never soggy
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil begins to dry
Always ensure the pot has drainage holes
Reduce watering slightly during cooler months
⚠️ Homalomena dislike drying out completely, but are also sensitive to overwatering.
🌱 Soil
Use a well-draining, moisture-retentive tropical mix such as:
Premium potting soil
Perlite or pumice for drainage
Orchid bark or coco chips for airflow
Optional: a small amount of sphagnum moss for gentle moisture retention
A chunky mix helps prevent root rot while supporting steady growth.
🪴 Pot Size
Babies do best in a small pot (2–4 inches)
Avoid oversized pots, which hold excess moisture
Repot only once roots begin to outgrow the container
🌡 Temperature & Humidity
Ideal temperature: 18–28°C
Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C
Enjoys moderate to high humidity, especially while young
Humidifiers or plant grouping can help in dry indoor environments
✨ Tip: Curling or crispy edges often indicate low humidity or inconsistent watering.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed during spring and summer growth
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer at ½ strength
Fertilize every 4–6 weeks
Pause feeding during autumn and winter
Gentle feeding is best for baby plants.
✂️ General Maintenance
Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust
Rotate the pot for even growth
Remove yellowing leaves with clean scissors
Homalomena prefer stable conditions and do not like frequent moving

Scale
Inspect leaves regularly and treat early if needed.

Homalomena are considered toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children.
📦 Postage & Shipping Information
All plants are carefully prepared and packaged to ensure they arrive safely and in excellent condition.
Orders are lovingly packed and dispatched on Mondays only, to help ensure they arrive before the following weekend, as our shop is closed on Tuesdays.
To ensure same-week dispatch, orders must be placed by midnight Sunday.
If Monday falls on a public holiday, dispatch will not take place until the following Monday. While we always do our best to send orders promptly, should any unexpected lengthy delays occur, we’ll be in touch to let you know.
Shipping Options
Bare Root Shipping (Most Economical Option):
Soil is mostly removed to reduce weight, and roots are wrapped in either sphagnum moss or damp shredded paper.
Potted Shipping (Where Possible):
Plants may be sent in their original nursery pots with soil intact. Shipping is calculated by weight, making this option more expensive, however plants will arrive less stressed with no need to pot them up on arrival.
Simply select your preferred shipping method at checkout.
Please note: Due to plant import restrictions, we are only able to ship to WA, NT, or TAS if prior arrangements have been made.
